The effective end of the Boehner speakership

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

John Boehner will go down in history as the cavemeister in chief.  How is giving the Democrats everything they asked for not caving? Boehner may have resisted until the last minute but it was all a cynical game. He intended all along to give in. His caucus had the votes to hold out. All they had to do was do it. There is no way that the Democrats could have forced the House GOP caucus to raise the debt ceiling.

They should have let us bump up against the ceiling and then let Obama preside over his constituents losing one welfare benefit after another because there was no money to pay for it. Any harm to the nation caused by that strategy would have paled in comparison to what the Democrats will do now that they know that Boehner will always cave in to them. Boehner has no credibility left and his speakership is effectively over. He will be speaker in name only and to get anything passed he will have to go groveling to Pelosi.

Republicans must stand firm

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

No matter what happens in Congress the federal government does not have to default on its debts on Thursday. There will be sufficient revenue to service the nation's debts and then some. As long as the debts are serviced we will not be in default. Yes there won't be enough money to fund each and every federal boondoggle, but not funding some federal programs is not defaulting as long as the debt is serviced which it can be.

As someone who decries the growing size and reach of the federal government, I don't think that failing to fund certain federal programs is such as bad thing. And it will teach people they they cannot depend the government to be their nanny. I would laugh if the EBT cards really don't work this time rather than a temporary glitch.

So I am urging the House GOP caucus to stand firm. No more so-called compromises with Obama and Reid. The GOP has offered to cave way too much already. They need to understand that Obama has no intention of working with Republicans. It's his way or the highway. Call his bluff. Let Thursday pass without a bill to raise the debt ceiling. It won't be such a bad thing and it will be infinitely better than caving in to the Democrats again. And don't worry about the polls. We should not govern on the basis of polls. Govern on the basis of what's right.

The true face of food stamp recipients

Monday, October 14, 2013

Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits.

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended.

Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd confirms they were called in to help the employees at Walmart because there were so many people clearing off the shelves. He says Walmart was so packed, "It was worse than any black Friday" that he's ever seen.

Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman  said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.

The incident at the Walmart in Louisiana just goes to show what type of people are on food stamps. It's not enough that they can use their EBT cards to rip off the taxpayer under normal circumstances. When they get the chance they will commit blatant fraud by going over their limit when the cards aren't functioning properly. One woman bought $700 worth of groceries when she only had $.49 on her card. Many others did similar things.

Are these the types of people that we are supposed to feel sorry for? If I had my way the whole pack of them would be cut off. Look, I know what it's like to be poor. I grew up in a poor family but my parents were proud people and they made many personal sacrifices so that they could feed their family without going on the dole. And then they sacrificed even more to put me through college. That's the way that today's food stamp recipients should be as well, but instead they are a pack of greedy criminals as evidenced by this incident. And then after they get home with the food they stole they can call their friends on their free Obamaphones to brag about it. Then they will sit back and watch football on their fancy flat screen TV and chug beer and smoke pot. What a**holes.

Obama's politics of fear

Obama is at it again practicing the politics of fear. He predicted dire consequences if the sequester was allowed to kick in, yet a few months later people have pretty much forgotten about the sequester. It was much ado about nothing. Then we had the big bad so-called government shutdown. Well it happened but the last time I checked the earth was still revolving around the sun and playoff baseball is still on TV. No big deal. And now Obama is trying to scare seniors into believing that if we reach the debt ceiling limit their Social Security checks will stop. But of course that's another one of Obama's lies. The Social Security trust fund is a separate entity that will not be affected by the debt ceiling. Yes some bonds might be called in but the treasury will have enough money to take care of that. Social Security checks will not stop. You can take that to the bank.

Will some government welfare programs be affected? Well let's hope so. A few freeloaders might lose their free Obamaphones. That would be a good thing, but Social Security has nothing to do with this. Folks, don't fall for another one of Obama's lies.
